Insider has major locker room concern about Steelers' Russell Wilson

NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated is among those who have a major worry about how veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will get along with his new Pittsburgh Steelers teammates.

"One of the issues Russell's had over the years is relating to his teammates," Breer explained during an appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" program, as shared by Matthew Marczi of Steelers Depot. "I think one of the superpowers of a lot of the truly great quarterbacks is they can be the celebrity over here and then over here be a normal guy in the locker room."

Wilson guided the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title and earned nine Pro Bowl nods from 2012-21 season. However, he allegedly lost some members of the Seattle locker room before the conclusion of his final campaign with that club, and he was routinely ripped while with the Denver Broncos across the past two seasons for certain antics that seemingly rubbed many the wrong way.

"The ability to be a regular guy is something that Russell's never really had," Breer continued, "which I think has caused him problems [during his NFL career]."

Wilson signed a team-friendly contract to join the Steelers in March and reportedly has impressed coaches and players with his "relentless work ethic" this spring. It's believed head coach Mike Tomlin will hold some type of competition between Wilson and 25-year-old signal-caller Justin Fields, but the starting job for the regular-season opener appears to be Wilson's to lose.

"Can he break down those walls with his teammates in Pittsburgh? I think that will be a very real question," Breer added about Wilson. "How do his coaches receive him? That's a real question."

Wilson was linked with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders before he signed a deal with the Steelers that guaranteed him nothing other than a roster spot through the preseason. In fact, some think the Steelers could cut Wilson before Week 1 if Tomlin ultimately names Fields his starter.
